VEIC's Mission & 20-Year Goal
VEIC's Mission
VEIC’s mission is to reduce the costs — both economic and environmental — of energy use.
We pursue our mission through planning, implementation, and financing of energy programs and projects and by advocating for public policies that maximize cost-effective carbon-reduction through energy efficiency and renewable energy.
Our 20-Year Goal (2007 - 2027)
Our work will result in reducing 20 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions (carbon ton equivalent) per year by 2027, twice the amount the entire state of Vermont produced in 2007. This is equal in 2027 to eliminating the need for seven 300 MW coal plants or removing 4 million cars from our roads. This work will generate net economic benefits in 2027 of $1.5 billion.
We will accomplish this goal through an integrated set of strategies that include policy and regulatory work, program and strategic design work, and direct delivery of services.
As a community, we will reduce the average GHG footprint per staff person by 50% as measured against the 2007 VEIC per-employee average, incorporating both business and personal GHG emissions.
We will assure that at least ten percent of the GHG and fiscal savings we create in 2027 will come from work that benefits low-income people.
